ECSC Principles and Standards

Following are the principles and standards that Enterprise and Community Support Company espouses in its efforts to design and implement programs that will result in prosperous communities.  We believe that the principles are necessary and that the standards are achievable.  We further believe that "prosperity" is an appropriately inclusive term that can effectively define the general result we can all strive toward.

We suggest our principles and standards as a platform for reflection and discussion, a point of order, a means for leadership recruitment, and a call for unified action.  We are not claiming them as a be all or end all.  We appreciate your input and will respond as we can find the time (if you would like to help and participate, we certainly would like your involvement.)

Our Fundamental Assumptions:  Humanity has reached a level of development where there are no inherent natural causes that prevent the achievement of economic and social prosperity for all human beings who are biologically capable of benefiting from such prosperity.  The successful achievement of prosperity for all requires that we integrate and apply the knowledge that we possess about the key factors that affect and determine human behavior.  There has to be a minimum number of people who ACT in unison to achieve the general prosperity that is now within reach.

      The Principles:

Principle # 1:   We must act in a given time frame and our actions should point toward
                           positive, measurable results.

Principle # 2:   Effective, unified action will result from effective, unified leadership character-
                           ized by competence and integrity.

Principle #3:   Effective, unified action to achieve prosperity must be based on a practical
understanding of the relationship between individual and society, which is best
expressed by the dynamics of enterprise and community.

Principle #4:   Effective, unified action toward community prosperity is best achieved within
open political and managerial systems.  Citizens must know what and how public
                          servants are performing.

Principle #5:   Effective, unified action must take place with in a commonly understood context
of priorities and resource limits.  We cannot do everything for all at once.

Principle #6:   Effective, unified action must be based on factual truths and the best available
                          scientific knowledge.

Principle #7:   Effective, unified action must now be accomplished with more efficiency than
ever before through the proper use of information and communications tech-
                          nology.

      The Standards:

Standard # 1:  Competent, accountable leadership, management and behavior must be
demanded from any individual who has public responsibility.  (The cost of
incompetence and corruption is almost incalculable.)

Standard # 2:  Any human misery or suffering that occurs as a result of human action is not
acceptable and must be eliminated in the same way that some diseases have
                          already been eradicated.

Standard # 3:  The time frame for achieving desired results on a world-wide level is
possibly 25 years, while less time should be allowed for the wealthier societies.

We hope that you agree with most of the points we have made here.  We also hope that you will go beyond reading and talking to start walking, if you are not already doing so.  The 90's expression, "Talking the talk and walking the walk" really captures the dilemma and tragedy underneath our inability to bring prosperity to more people. (See our page on good intentions.)
