THE INTERSECTION OF COMMUNITY AND ENTERPRISE

The individual is at the intersection of community and enterprise, because that is where true, enlightened self-interest lies in accordance with human nature.

Ruth Benedict, one of America's most renowned anthropologists, conducted a little known study that should stand as one of the most significant of the century.  She found out what the primary determinant of a healthy society is!

When the interests of self and society match there will be minimum human conflict, optimal harmony and the greatest level of individual happiness.

Although the above concept is actually very old, we are not aware of studies, other than Benedict's, that have actually demonstrated it.

So how can we set up a system that will best match personal and community interests?

Consider that the two dominant ideologies of the last two centuries have been capitalism and socialism, neither of which have been shown to work well by themselves.  Therefore, shouldn't we take the lessons of history to heart and create a true hybrid that combines the best of both?

In this context we should mention Stafford Beer's work who, by the 1970's, actually invented a methodology with practical potential that can now be realized with the advent of the Internet.

Enterprise and Community Support Company is committed to implement this practical, "new" ideology through its structure and actions.  Of course, much more work needs to be done, but we believe that we have laid some good foundations.

As we develop this site further we will add information as quickly as we can as to the what, why and how of our mission.  We will also document the available research basis for the work that we have been doing.

Please provide us with any ideas and thoughts that you might like to add by filling out the feedback form.  ECSC is definitely committed to a cooperative, community- entrepreneurial approach and seeks your support, input and participation.
