What Is Citizen Compact?

     Citizen Compact is a group of people who believe that political leaders and public servants can do much more.  They are citizens who are committed to act together to make sure that government and public organizations perform better.  This will be done by setting up a volunteer-based system of monitoring politicians and public servants and holding them accountable to get results.

Why Citizen Compact?

     Any good parent knows that children behave better when they know exactly what is expected of them and are watched closely.  Children tell us what is most basic about human nature.  So in the same way, good managers know that they have to be very clear about the results that are expected, to let people know right away if they are performing well or poorly, and then to be sure that there are consequences for both good and poor performance.

     The biggest problem with politicians and government is that performance objectives are not set or not taken seriously.  There are few if any contracts that politicians and public servants have to adhere to that specify the results that have to be achieved and that require performance for pay. There are practically no consequences for poor performance.

     There are a large number of of public interest and activist organizations that are concerned with more specific issues, and therefore have much less leverage with respect to government results as a whole.  There is no general citizen organization to monitor performance and make sure that good performance is rewarded or that penalties for poor performance will be enforced.  This is the purpose of Citizen Compact.

     Until the founding of Citizen Compact there has been no specific plan and process to set up an effective system to hold politicians and public servants truly accountable for results.  We are now implementing such a plan, process and system!

What Makes Citizen Compact Credible?

The concept of a Citizen Compact is based on sound political theory and philosophy.

The results that Citizen Compact will focus on are to based on fundamental principles of ethics, religion and social philosophy.

The processes and methods that Citizen Compact intends to implement are based on the most advanced planning and organizational theory developed to date.

Citizen Compact will succeed because its programs will be implemented using proven, effective management practices that have been developed in the last decade and that have been demonstrated to work.

     If you agree with most of the points that we have made here we ask that you consider participation in Citizen Compact.   Clearly, a compact cannot work without a certain level of citizen involvement.
